Float Mount Floating Art Frame

When a piece is floated its raw edges are visible as opposed to mounting where the mount covers the edges with the crisp lines of the card and when you look at it from any angle there is no sign of anything which fixes it in position. Float mounting is where all the edges of the art print or picture are exposed and then art is separated from the glass with a plastic spacer. Float or floater frames are so named because the illusion they create is that your artwork is floating within the frame instead of being covered by it. Your art will float in the frame.
Or to cast a more dramatic shadow first attach the artwork to acid free foam core so that the artwork sits a bit higher in the frame. But if you want to have glass you will need to make sure your frame is deep enough for the float mounted art. With float mounting the artwork will look like it s hovering or floating over the backing board. Then you can either buy spacers to hold the mat board with the mounted art back from the glass or you can cut scraps of foam board to the depth you need and insert those in the edges of your frame.
You may choose to attach your artwork directly to the mat board with t hinges.
